NC Lake Home – Dream Home and Dream Project

We have been a very fortunate team over the last year – we continue to manage interior decorating projects, large and small, and enjoy our clients just as much.

One major highlight last year was designing and decorating Chambers for a Supreme Court Justice, which was an experience of a lifetime.  We were certain there would be no project rivaling this for many, many years to come.  However, we are just beginning work on a home that has many design features based on one of my personal favorite movies of all time,  “Something’s Gotta Give.”  The movie easily stands on its own and is a favorite simply due to the chemistry between Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson.

However, as a design professional, it’s impossible not to notice and be completely enchanted by the Hamptons beach house, which is the backdrop for much of  the movie.  The clean, crisp white wood cabinetry and trim, simple off-white drapery panels framing every window overlooking the ocean and the transistional, slipcovered furniture and casually-striped rugs translate into the feeling of one comfortable home.

So, imagine our delight when our VA-based clients purchased a lakefront home in North Carolina with similar architectural and design inspirations as the famous Hamptons home, and asked us to decorate it, with seasoned, Janet Aurora as lead designer.  In addition to the interior, we will be paying special attention to the more than 3,000+ square feet of outdoor living space on the lake.

We love our work! (Hope our clients don’t see this … they may ask us for a discount. It almost seems avarice to receive money for something you enjoy this much.)

Goodbye 2011 and Happy 2012!

With so many people deciding to stay in the home where they live vs upgrading to a larger home further out, the remodeling business has been booming the last 3 years.  DecorAndYouDC experienced our best month in December 2011, and our second best year overall in sales since we started in 2003.  We thank all our loyal clients and all our new clients and prospects who take the time to learn a little bit more about us and how we work.

In 2011, we saw consistent demand for remodeling bathrooms and kitchens.  We updated more of each in 2011 than in any previous year.  Often times, clients only wanted a facelift to include maximum storage in cabinetry in more current finishes, decorative backsplashes, tile flooring, unique and much more useful lighting, and updated, oversized appliances – but all in the same or similar footprint as their current kitchen.  In general, these kitchens budgets were $45,000-$65,000 including labor.  (The two photos below are of a kitchen designed and managed by Gina Simpson.)

Furniture Too Big or Too Small ?

We were a team of 3 last week, which was a first for a delivery of 4 pieces:  desk, file cabinet, credenza and area rug (colorful and just gorgeous I might add and brag).  Since you probably have a day job more glamorous than ours, let us paint this nail-biting experience if for no other reason than have you appreciate going to your office every day.

This should have been a 30-minute delivery, if you do not take into account the 3-hour window given at 5 pm the prior evening.  However, let’s say it was an all-day, all night affair.  (more…)

Fairfax, VA/Sept. 17, 2009: COMPLIANCE COUNSEL has partnered with The Virginia Realty Group, RE/MAX Gateway, Chantilly, VA, to form the Center for Foreclosure Alternatives®
Firms create not-for-profit center to assist homeowners in avoiding foreclosure.

Due to the lagging economy and record number of foreclosures, two locally based organizations have formed a not-for-profit organization to reach out to homeowners who are experiencing problems paying their mortgage. The Center for Foreclosure Alternatives, based in Fairfax, VA was created by Dena Roudybush of Compliance Counsel and Bryan Felder, of The Virginia Realty Group, RE/MAX Gateway to explain options and assist homeowners in distress.

The Center is a resource outlet for consumers to help educate them on the options available to avoid foreclosure and to obtain detailed information on each option. The guidance is available at no cost to homeowners from the certified specialists associated with the Center. The goal of the organization is to provide real and truthful options to homeowners specific to each homeowner’s unique situation. The Center provides mortgage counseling and advice, advice on loan modification and short sale options, foreclosure avoidance, and bankruptcy.

With the support of CBS Radio, the Center is currently planning Community Outreach programs and clinics to assist the Latino community as well. The Center does not charge a fee to homeowners to meet with a housing counselor or bankruptcy attorney, when necessary, to discuss options specific to the homeowner.

Bryan Felder, of The Virginia Realty Group, RE/MAX Gateway and his team discuss and assist homeowners with short sales and rental options available. Dena Roudybush of Compliance Counsel focuses on assisting clients with loan modifications and bankruptcy options. Based on the clients they serve, it’s clearly evident that there is a great deal of confusion as to what alternatives a distressed homeowner has at their disposal.

“The Center for Foreclosure Alternatives is the hope the American people have been looking for!  So many Americans are lost and struggling with how to handle any and all of their housing issues.  The Center for Foreclosure Alternatives offers truthful and knowledgeable answers.  The Center for Foreclosure Alternatives is HOPE for a better future.”  - Faith Poe, CBS Radio

Forming the Center for Foreclosure Alternatives has been the best thing for consumers since they can get free information on the options they have and what to do with their home or investment property,” Charlene Jones, Branch Manager of Wells Fargo Mortgage.

What a good way for the average person who hit a bad spot in their life because of a job loss or a divorce to find some options to get back on their feet,” Freeman Klopott, reporter for the Washington Inquirer.
