Event: Interior Decorating – Open House with Mary Gilliatt

Decor and You DC and world famous interior decorator, Mary Gilliatt, are speaking to the residents of the Goodwin House in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday, September 9 at 4:00 pm. And, you’re invited to join us for an special interior decorating open house Wednesday evening.

Decor & You DC invites you to an Open House event featuring Mary Gilliatt,  our educational director, world-famous interior decorator and author of over 40 books.  Mary will introduce her latest book, Mary Gilliatt’s Fabulous Food and Friends.  She will recount tales from the 1960s of her fascinating friendships with Europe’s high society and British nobility, including Princess Margaret.  She will prepare and share a menu item from her book, and demonstrate how to entertain in your home and live well.

Decor & You DC will also share ideas on how to work with a decorator and have an open discussion on how to solve your decorating dilemmas – big or small.  Bring photographs.

Mary Gilliatt, World Famous Interior Decorator and Author of 40 interior design and decorating booksMary Gilliatt’s, ‘Fabulous Food and Friends,’ reads like a who’s who of the 1960’s. Together with her husband Roger Gilliatt, Tony Snowden’s Best Man at his wedding to Princess Margaret; she entertained a wealth of friends from the worlds of royalty, politics, entertainment, art, photography, literature, design and science.

The book consists of accounts and anecdotes from dinner parties held by Mary Gilliatt throughout the 1960’s, she lists her high class guests as well as the various dishes that they were served. The intimate details provided in the accounts make up an insight into the private lives of some very public faces giving a unique perspective on some of the most famous names and events of the decade.

Through Mary Gilliatt’s anecdotes discover which Prime Minister needed anger management lessons, why Terence Conran was in Princess Margaret’s bath and what happened when Laurence Olivier dined with Ken Tynan.

The last section of the book is made up of 135 of Mary Gilliatt’s recipes for dishes such as smoked salmon quiche and chocolate meringue mousse allowing the reader to create the magic of Mary’s dinner parties for themselves.
